other activities

The Master’s Degree Course in Mathematics includes two activities (eligibility without grade) for this type of credit:

(a) Linguistic skills of 4 credits which can be obtained through:

(a1) English language improvement courses (for all students),
(a2) courses for learning / improving the Italian language (only for international students), (a3) host country language courses for students completing part of their studies abroad.

In any case, these courses must include a final exam. This activity is recorded by the manager defined annually.

(b) Seminar activities of 4 credits which can be obtained in various ways:

(b1) (preferred option) prepare and present a topic assigned by a professor of the Department of Mathematics (who may possibly be the thesis supervisor: in this case the work done in the seminar cannot be a repetition of a part of the work presented in the thesis, but it can be a complement or a deepening); the topic can be individually agreed with the teacher, also on the student’s proposal, or inserted in a cycle of seminars on a broader theme, of which each student exposes the part of his/her competence. The work topics proposed by the teachers will be presented on the web/moodle pages dedicated to Seminar Activities, as well as information relating to seminars carried out and planned.

(b2) internship activities or parts of exams with laboratory (1 CFU is recognized per exam) or computer-related credits (if these credits are supernumerary in the study plan) approved by the teacher responsible for the Seminar Activities;

(b3) other types of activities (doctoral courses, summer courses or other) can be recognized upon request by the teacher responsible for the Seminar Activities; the Didactic Commission can also report other activities identified as suitable from time to time through the moodle page.

This activity is recorded by the referent, which is defined annually. The current referent is Prof. Fabio Marcuzzi.

At least one of the two activities (a) or (b) is compulsory in the study plans; both can be inserted, and in this case one of the two will be inserted among the free credits.
